Charlotte’s Litter Walk-A-Thon – A Great Success!

What makes a great day? How about over 100 enthusiastic dog lovers along with some two dozen therapy dogs walking along a lovely beach area in West Haven, CT! Saturday’s Charlotte’s Litter Walk-A-Thon was a very special and wonderful time. We are so grateful for the warm support of the West Haven community in providing the logistical support, and for each of the participants. Not only did we get a chance to hear reports of the significant progress made by the Charlotte’s Litter program over this last year, but were encouraged with opportunities to engage with folks about new possibilities to expand the awareness of therapy dogs in educational settings and contacts for follow-up.

Besides creating continued awareness of the valuable use of therapy dogs, the key purpose of the Walk-A-Thon was to raise funds to support future initiatives. We were very encouraged with the giving response and will be sharing with you how close we came to our target goal. These funds will be directed toward:

  • Ongoing efforts to support expanded use of Charlotte’s Litter program; advocacy for Therapy/Comfort Dogs in additional schools in the state of CT

  • Continued efforts to train more Therapy/Comfort Dogs on K9FR, and to support deployment costs when dispatched

  • Continued partnership efforts with public/municipal services and local chapter literacy programs like R.E.A.D.

The Walk-A-Thon was made possible because of the dedication of many, many volunteers who happily give time and effort to support this important cause. A big thanks to each of them and to all who shared in this wonderful event!
